The 2008 MSGHL State Playoff’s for U19 Competitive, U19 Recreational, U14 and U12 will be held in Aspen, Colorado on March 7-9, 2008 and hosted by the Aspen Youth Hockey Association. The on site tournament directors will be Kathy and Bruce Dreher and Margie Holland  Below you will find information regarding the State Playoff’s:

Fee:  There will be no entry fee for this season’s State Playoff’s.    Thanks to the hard work of Ellen Yeiser the MSGHL President, CAHA has agreed to fund the MSGHL State Playoff’s for 2008.

msghl_logo_smallFormat:  The tournament will be a double elimination format with either a 4 or 5 team pool.  This year the association that hosts the tournament was given the opportunity to have an automatic berth in the tournament if their team was not one of the top 4 teams in any given division.  If the host association chooses to take advantage of this opportunity it will be a 5 team tournament.   Tournament rules and brackets will be posted to the website as by February 1, 2008.

Download the following two pdf files to see how the brackets will be formated:

Schedule:  Games will begin on Friday March 7 and are projected to start in the afternoon.  Please make proper plans to be able to attend Friday afternoon games if your team is going to be in the playoffs. Games will not be rescheduled because it is not convenient for someone.

Eligibility:
All players in the tournament most meet the 50% eligibility rule.  Eligibility status will be going out the first of February to each respective manager.  Eligibility checks are compiled based on Pointstreak game sheets. If game sheets are missing this could affect a player’s eligibility.  Please make sure that all your score sheets are entered within 24 hours of playing your games if there is not a terminal at the rink.

Hotels: Hotel information will be posted on the MSGHL website.  A lot of the hotels have deadlines for booking, so if you know you are for sure in the tournament or highly likely to be, you may wan to book those rooms right away.

Awards: First place teams will receive a Banner, Team Trophy and individual award.  Second place teams will receive a team trophy and individual awards.

USA Hockey Districts:   USAHockey has offered all additional spots in this tournament to all States within the Rocky Mountain District.  The MSGHL is happy to announce that the winner of the U19 Competitive, U14 and U12 divisions will be invited to the USAHockey Girls/Rec District Tournament in Boise, Idaho March 28-30, 2008.  There is a chance that some or all of our second place teams may be  invited as well.  The U12 division has very few interested teams at this point and it looks like it will not happen unless the MSGHL sends 3 teams to play the other interested team.  We are assuming that would not be acceptable for our U12 teams but if your U12 team feels differently and would be interested in that format please let Ellen know right away at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .    Please check with your parents and make sure that they are aware of this opportunity for all divisions listed above.  I will need to know if your team is committed.  By committed we mean that you will definitely go and will not back out at the last minute for any reason.  If you do commit and back out your team will face heavy fines as well as the possibility of not being eligible for playoffs next season.  Many teams from many States are effected by a last minute cancellation, it is very important that all teams understand the level of commitment.  If you feel that your team is most likely to be in the MSGHL playoffs please send me an email stating that your team will move on to Boise if you come in first or second in the tournament or that they will not commit to move on.  My email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  I need to have this information no later than February 6, 2008.    You can get more information regarding the District Tournament at USAHockey under the Rocky Mountain District link.

We will continue to post new information on the website as it becomes available.  If you have questions please email Casey at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
